Most Popular App Categories across the Globe – an M2 App Insight report

  1. Social (27%): The United States is the only country of the five shown today in which social apps make up the largest percent of usage.
  2. Communication (25%): Android users in the United States engage less with communication apps than the other 4 countries.

Other app categories (24%): Of the five countries shown today, US Android users have the most diverse app category preferences. The top 5 categories in the United States only account for 76% of onscreen app usage time and no app category controls more than 30% of overall usage time.

  2. Social (13%): German Android users engage with social apps less than half as much as their American counterparts.

  1. Communication (62%): In Spain, communication apps such as WhatsApp, Chrome, and Line dominate the Spanish Android market.
  2. Social (16%): Despite being the second largest app category in Spain, social apps consume barely a quarter of the usage time of communication apps.

Other (6%): Of the five markets surveyed in this report, Spain has the least diverse Android app category preferences, being that 94% of all onscreen usage time takes place while using apps from the top 5 categories.
