The Game of Battery Life: 5 Popular Apps That Have High Battery Usage

As part of our AppMonitor Analysis series, we will be bringing you information on apps directly from our AppMonitor Online Dashboard. AppMonitor, M2Catalyst’s application data analysis suite, has been collecting data on tens of thousands of popular apps for over six months. This has led to an accumulated database containing over 100 million points of data, and within this data are several interesting nuggets of information. This data comes from Android users around the world, and it’s useful in helping to inform Android owners about the apps they have on their own devices.

If there’s one thing that can really mess up your day, it’s having your phone’s battery die. When the battery’s dead, the phone is pretty much useless (unless you need an expensive paperweight). This is why it is very important for users to keep track of the battery usage of the apps on their device. Play a game often? Chances are that it’s sucking up a significant part of your power. Below you’ll find a list of 5 popular apps that have high battery usage (so, it’s really more of a “bottom 5,” but you get the picture). If you’ve got these apps on your phone, be sure that you are aware of the power they are using up! Of course, these apps aren’t necessarily “bad apps” because of how much battery they use – many of them have legitimate reasons for needing so much power. But still, it’s your phone, and if you want the battery to last the whole day, you may want to use these more carefully than other apps.

Note: M2 categorizes “efficient” battery usage as anything that uses 700mW or less during average use. “Medium” usage would be 700mW to 12oomW, and “high” usage is anything above 1200mW.
